Permits to work policy

When construction or maintenance work carries a potential risk of serious injury - it’s good practice to use a permit to work. Why not set out your policy on the topic using our template?

What’s covered?

The Permits to Work Policy has scope for you to tailor it to your own requirements. It begins with a brief general statement on the subject and an outline of the legal position. There are then three key sections which describe:

  • the type of work for which permits to work should be issued
  • the arrangements for appointing and authorising permit issuers; and
  • a step by step procedure for issuing a permit to work.

The procedure considers, for example, who will identify that a permit to work is needed in the first place, how it will be issued, monitoring of the work activity, completion of the work and cancellation.
